Black River and Paw Paw River Watersheds Phosphorous Fertilizer Outreach Project
Spring Project Grant Award: $1700
Spring TA Grant Award: $700
Project Summary:
To raise awareness of phosphorous related water quality issues and the impacts of phosphorous fertilizers on the Black River and Paw Paw River Watersheds, Two Rivers Coalition (TRC) will create and disperse materials to educate retailers and the public about the effects of phosphorous fertilizers and the presence of fertilizer bans in the watersheds. Van Buren and Allegan Counties have already committed to the implementation of a phosphorous fertilizer ban. TRC will assist with education about the benefits of phosphorous fertilizer bans throughout Berrien County, resulting in a phosphorous ban across the entire Black River and Paw Paw River Watershed area. During the project, they will develop tools that can be utilized by other areas seeking to implement a phosphorous fertilizer outreach campaign.
