Educating the Public to Oppose Toxic Landfilling that Contaminates the Great Lakes

Project Summary:
Chemical Waste Management (CWM) continues to press for a siting plan and permit to add a new landfill as well as expand their current toxic landfill near the mouth of the Niagara River on Lake Ontario. Residents for Responsible Government (RRG) is educating and rallying public support to oppose these efforts. The EPA opposes the new landfill while the New York Department of Environmental Conservation continues to move the process forward. RRG will use grant monies for educational materials and outreach.

Freshwater Future builds effective community-based citizen action to protect and restore the water quality of the Great Lakes basin. We work toward this goal by providing financial assistance, communications and networking assistance and technical assistance to citizens and grassroots watershed groups throughout the Great Lakes basin. Through these efforts we work with over 1,800 grassroots watershed groups and citizens to protect and restore the rivers, lakes and wetlands in their communities. Freshwater Future, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
