Back to Court with Nestlé Waters North America
Spring Project Grant Award: $2200
Spring TA Grant Award: $1800
Project Summary:

Michigan Citizens for Water Conservation (MCWC) has won in three courts in its battle against Nestlé's pumping spring water from the Sanctuary Springs in Mecosta County. MCWC, in 2008, attempted mediation with Nestlé to limit Nestlé's pumping level during April 1 - September 30 by stage and flow criteria. Nestlé, at the same time, was asking for higher limits and is now asking for a "do over" of the entire case that was tried and won by MCWC in the Mecosta County Circuit Court in 2003. Nestlé's proposal would cause an average annual increase of up to 30% of the historical pumping rates and MCWC's proposal would reduce the average annual pumping a maximum of 3.2%. Since mediation was not successful, MCWC v Nestlé Waters North America will be back in court July 6-10, 2009. MCWC will use grant monies for educational materials and legal fees.
