Grassroots Initiative to Stop an Environmentally-Destructive Road Expansion Project in Wisconsin
Fall 2007 Project Grant Award: $3,500
Fall 2007 Technical Grant Award: $1,000
Project Summary:

Highway J Citizens Group is pursuing a major federal lawsuit regarding a highway expansion project, which, if successful, will protect precious wetland areas, primary environmental corridors, river crossings and nearby lakes where several endangered and threatened animal and plant species live. In addition, they are seeking the complete clean-up of the groundwater contamination problems in the Ackerville area which now have worsened because of the WisDOT's recently-constructed bridge project along Highway 164 there. The grant will assist with funds for attorney fees in the lawsuit and project expenses to assist with fundraising and communications on the issue.
