Adopt A Wetland
Spring Project Grant Award: $2000
Project Summary:
Using their Georgian Bay-specific Aquatic Plant Guide, designed by McMaster University's wetlands experts, the GBA Foundation will train volunteers to identify and catalogue aquatic plants in their local wetlands. If invasive species such as Eurasian Milfoil or new Phragmites Australis are found by volunteers, McMaster University doctoral students will confirm the species and will remove it manually. When the work is completed, the Foundation will submit all data to partner McMaster University for inclusion in a comprehensive Georgian Bay wetland inventory. This inventory will enable assessment, monitoring and protection of the wetlands for years to come.
